What is your favorite thing about the movie Labyrinth?
I, like most people, have a hard time pinning it down to one thing. Overall, I like the complexity of the tale and how it presents a fantasy world, and a villain, created by the very psyche of the heroine. Jareth is Sarah's invention, so I do believe that, while most female viewers are drawn to Jareth, the film tells us a lot about Sarah. Moreso, perhaps, that it tells us a lot about those of us who love Jareth as much as we do. The movie is about a rite of passage, and how we must learn to balance our love of fantasy with our ability to live in the real world. Dreams and reality both have their place. We cannot turn a deaf ear to either, or we will surely fail our quest.

Who is your favorite character, and why?

That probably changes every year for me. Sheer sentimentality points to Sir Didymus. He is amazingly quixotic. However, Ludo grows on me all the time, because I realize how much is going on under the surface. A kind beast whose affections are endless and true.

Often I think the goblins themselves are forgotten; they are, after all, the throng of idiots who back up Jareth's power. They are downright hilarious in their antics, and I would be intrigued to see more tales focusing on their boggling buffoonery.

Through all of this, though, I must confess to a deep fascination for Jareth. I wonder what compels an arrogant fae to decide to manifest as the villain and lustful interest of a teenage girl.

If Jareth had given you the crystal (and there was no baby brother at stake), what dream would you have chosen?
I would probably seek to gain the fae-like power to grant other people their dreams. And hopefully the wisdom to know when dreams were worth granting.

What character in the movie do you think you are most like? Why?

Probably Jareth, although even that depends upon interpretation. While I definitely believe in living a life of good deeds, my own mentality exists outside of a black and white view of right and wrong. The world exists in balance, and there is a need for Jareth as well as Sarah. I think that Jareth not only thinks and understands this, but that it is an integral part of who he is.

I also see myself as having an innate sense of magic in the world, and do whatever I can to shape my mentality so that I might harness this ability and utilize it more effectively.

And, above all, I am constantly seeking to develop a fashion sense (and wardrobe) equal to the Goblin King's! Oh how I do love dominating apparel! I'm also a little vain, but then again, I can equally admire the beauty in all people, so I don't see that as too bad of a quality.

Do you believe in faeries?
Yes. However, I don't think that faeries aren't exactly as we think of them. The fae are the personification of all the universe's faces. When we interact with the fae, we are seeing the image of them that they think we will most understand. And there is not truly any such thing as a bad or good faery... Faeries just have jobs, and all fae take pleasure in performing their jobs. If it just so happens to be that their job is to, oh, I don't know, seduce young girls and turn their baby brothers into goblins, well, that doesn't really make them bad, now does it? They are just doing their job.

What is your favorite quote?

I'll list a few, as it's terribly hard to pin just one down.

"Find your way into the part." -- Jareth, from the Labyrinth novel
"Slide." -- Marla Singer, Fight Club
"You are not your fucking khakis." -- Tyler Durden, Fight Club
"If you seek to fulfill your personal mission, the universe will conspire to help you." -- The Alchemist
"It's not easy being green." -- Kermit the Frog
"I'm nobody's puppet!" -- Rygel, Farscape
"Fetch the comfy chair." -- John Crichton, Farscape
"Toffuti break!" -- Mr. Show
"Um, yeah... Did you notice that you forgot to staple a cover page on the TPS report?" -- Office Space
"I add a little excitement. A little spice to your lives and all you do is complain. Where's the adventurous spirit?" -- Q, Star Trek (Next Gen, I am guessing)
"Hello, hello, testing, testing, one, one, one, me me me. Attention all lady cats! I am feeling very, very sexy! Can you hear me, lady cats?! My body is available." -- Cat, Red Dwarf
"Obnoxious frog." -- Spike, Cowboy Bebop
"I'm not going to die. I'm going to see if I was ever alive." -- Spike, Cowboy Bebop
"Mmmmm… Yes! Futile! Useless!" -- Ed, Cowboy Bebop
"Not coming for Ed, Oo-la-la." -- Ed, Cowboy Bebop
"I'm Rick James, bitch!" -- Dave Chapelle as Rick James, Chapelle's Show
"Actually, I name my monkeys Judith." -- David Bowie in a chat

Do you think David Bowie is sexy? (If you don't swing that way.... how about Jennifer?)

Yes would be an understatement. David Bowie has been the backdrop to my life since the age of six. He is so ingrained into my person, that he has become the definition of sexiness, intellectual, physical, and otherwise. Nearly every persona he has donned, I have adored it.

In the last five years, Jennifer has also blossomed into a radiant beauty. She is quite the goddess. I am smitten with her as well, though not nearly so much as David.

Do you have a favorite Bowie album? What is it and what do you like about it?

Dear me, hard to answer for a person who owns the entire collection and listens to and enjoys every single album (even Tin Machine, god forbid.) His most recent debuts of Heathen and Reality are excellent, and I can't get enough of them. When I'm feeling a bit morbid, 1. Outside is the perfect salve. A craving for cyberpunk goes nicely with a side of Diamond Dogs. Rainy day nostalgia begs for Buddha of Suburbia. D. H. Lawrence style regret and angst calls for Low or Heroes, while frazzled kookiness begs Lodger. A mood of wonton daring and adventurousness screams Scary Monsters.

Having said that, I think my current favorite is most likely Low, although it doesn't beat the others by many points. I don't listen to it as often as the others, but it has a heavy poignance and inventiveness that is hard to put into words. The broodiness appeals to my nature.

Currently, I listen most often to Heathen and Reality. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

What career are you in, or what career do you hope to be in?
By day, I am a web designer for Curiosity Group. By night, I am an author (of novels, stories, screenplays, and poetry) as well as a filmmaker. My ultimate goal is to be a filmmaker. Someday I will run my own production company that runs according to similar ideals as the Jim Henson Company. My lovely beau and I make a wonderful team in film, and are just now really beginning to spread our wings in this venue.

What are your hobbies?
When I'm not writing, designing, or making films, I like to sew or piece together costumes and attend costume events. I make handmade journals (some of which you can see here), practice photography, and study mystical arts (like tarot and spell-casting). However, I would not exactly classify myself a witch in the most common sense.

What are your favorite movies?

Being a filmmaker, it is hard to label just a few. Even the ones I will write here will just be the most immediate to come to mind (and will include television shows).

Fight Club, Cowboy Bebop, The Dark Crystal, Kill Bill, Red Dwarf, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Legend, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Star Wars Trilogy, Farscape, Star Trek, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Brimstone, Mr. Show, True Romance, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Linguini Incident, Absolute Beginners, The Matrix, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Secretary, Bound, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Pay it Forward, Dark City, The City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, Amelie, The Royal Tennenbaums, Babylon 5, Neverwhere, Dune (new and old), Planet of the Apes (the old television series), Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton), Nightmare Before Christmas, The Ninth Gate, Dogma, Chasing Amy, Clerks, Chapelle's Show, Batman Beyond, Sealab 2021, FLCL, Tenchi Muyo, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Space Ghost, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Princess Bride

What are your favorite books?
I also have tons of books that I love, but I am worse at remembering titles in this area. His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman, Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman, Fight Club by Chuck Palahnuik, Sex Drugs and Magick by Robert Anton Wilson, Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson, Idoru by William Gibson, Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkein, Sabriel and subsequent books in this series by Garth Nix, Magic Kingdom for Sale series by Terry Brooks, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy (5 books) by Douglas Adams, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Brian Froud's faery books, Onion Girl by Charles de Lint, J. Michael Straczynski's book on screenwriting, The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho.

Who is your favorite singer or band?
David Bowie is by far my favorite singer. Some other favorites are Tricky, Nine Inch Nails, Faithless, Prince, Outkast, Garbage, Radiohead, Fugazi, Vanessa Daou, Propellerheads, Morphine, The Pixies, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Gorillaz, Miles Davis, Talvin Singh, Bach, Beethoven, Phillip Glass

What is your favorite set of song lyrics?

The Width Of A Circle

(David Bowie)

In the corner of the morning in the past
I would sit and blame the master first and last
All the roads were straight and narrow
And the prayers were small and yellow
And the rumour spread that I was aging fast
Then I ran across a monster who was sleeping
By a tree
And I looked and frowned and the monster was me

Well, I said hello and I said hello
And I asked "Why not?" and I replied "I don't know"
So we asked a simple black bird, who was happy as can be
And he laughed insane and quipped "Kahlil Gibran"
So I cried for all the others till the day was nearly through
For I realised that God's a young man too

So I said "So long" and I waved bye-bye
And I smashed my soul and traded my mind
Got laid by a young bordello
I was vaguely half asleep
For which my reputation swept back home in drag
And the moral of this magic spell
Negotiates my hide
When God did take my logic for a ride
(Riding along)

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

He swallowed his pride and puckered his lips
And showed me the leather belt round his hips
My knees were shaking my cheeks aflame
He said "You'll never go down to the Gods again"
(Turn around, go back!)

He struck the ground a cavern appeared
And I smelt the burning pit of fear
We crashed a thousand yards below
I said "Do it again, do it again"
(Turn around, go back!)

His nebulous body swayed above
His tongue swollen with Devil's love
The snake and I, a venom high
I said "Do it again, do it again"
(Turn around, go back!)

Breathe, breathe, breathe deeply
And I was seething, breathing deeply
Spitting sentry, horned and tailed
Waiting for you

What is the most amazing thing you have ever done?
In all seriousness, I have been lucky enough to do many amazing things. I've interned at LucasArts, won awards for the first short film I ever produced, finished two novels and two screenplays, successfully completed NaNoWriMo, made friends all over the world, met Brian Froud, David Cross, and been to a party which George Lucas attended (passing right by him!) I got a great job a month after moving to a big city in a down economy, I've maintained a large web site, and I've had a lot of fun in life, managing somehow to (mostly) maintain my childlike love of the world throughout everything. I look forward to more exciting days in the future.

Tell us more about yourself.

I've always been a strange bird, and I'm constantly trying to keep from being too predictable. I have a lovely beau who works tirelessly to keep me happy, despite my bipolar habits. I have a dog and a cat, my darling and very stubborn children. I'm a perfectionist and, some say, workaholic. I really like to stay busy with creative work, for working creatively is when I am most content. I'm a bit of an exhibitionist, and I always work to challenge people's perceptions of the world. I'm very open-minded, with interests spanning religious beliefs, scientific discoveries, and sexual behaviors. I have a bit of an anthropologist inside that always seeks to dissect people's customs and intentions. I am infinitely curious and wildly excited by that which is new or disruptive of the status quo. I believe in quantum physics (and magic) and think that everyone has the potential to do anything which they desire... They just have to want it badly enough and be willing to work for it.

In closing...

Don't ever fall under the negative perceptions of others, about yourself or the world around you. We are no better than anyone else, but are all unique and have a worthwhile purpose in this universe. Open your intuition and heart to that which you truly desire. Anything in this universe is possible... We all define our own universe, and what we experience is largely based upon our perceptions of the world. Never be afraid to love yourself more than anyone else, because it is you above all that you must spend your life with. Love yourself, and you will find that you love others more deeply. Change yourself, and the world will change with you.
