| I wrote the Jim Henson Company on the issue of no Region 2
release on DVD for Labyrinth. I am sad to say that they won't
at the current juncture be releasing it on Region 2 (but might
consider it I am guessing if they receive enough profit from
the initial release). This is the e-mail I sent them:
Dear JHC,
I run a major Labyrinth fan site, and have received inquiries
about the likelihood of Henson releasing the upcoming Labyrinth
DVD for Region 2 DVD players. Some people are under the impression
that there won't be a release of the DVD on Region 2, and
I wanted to see if that is correct or not.
If there won't be a release of the DVD on Region 2 format,
is there any way you could let me know the reasoning behind
the decision in an official e-mail response? As my site serves
as a source of information for many people, especially UK
fans, it would be great if I could post the response on the
site to answer questions and alleviate any potential dissatisfaction
that the UK audience might experience. I personally know that
JHC is a fantastic company that works hard to meet the demands
of all their fans, but that financially it is sometimes not
feasible to make merchandise available to all venues.
Thank you for any help you can offer in distributing information
to your inquisitive Labyrinth fans.
Sincerely,
Judith Agrathea

This is the response I received:
Dear Judith,
As of now, the manufacturer does not have a plan to release
the Labyrinth DVD for Region 2 DVD players. We do not have
any control over how the manufacturer perceives the market.
You are correct - sometimes it's not feasible to make merchandise
available to all venues.
Hopefully in the future that may change
Happy Holidays and regards . . . The Jim Henson Company
So, this is the way I interpret it:
It is out of the JHC control, and was entirely the decision
of the manufacturer, not the company. But if it is received
well enough, they will make an effort to make it available
on Region 2.
So keep your fingers crossed.
