Site Questions
Q. It seems like the site hasn't been updated since 2002.
Why is that?
A. Oh, like most things, it's a sad story involving a
the tiniest violin in the world. I won't go into it, except
as to say, despite plans, I've had to let go of the updates.
So no more updates, kiddies. Love it as it is. Judith needs
to let go of her baby.
Q. Are you ever going to update the site again?
A. Not much. I might get an impulse here and there, but
it will be rare. It actually has been rare already since 2001,
so I guess this isn't going to be a surprise to you guys.
However, that impulse will probably be more rare than it even
was.
Q. Who maintains this site?
A. One lonely little graphic designer by the name of Judith
Agrathea. I do all the work on here (except for the lovely
written contributions from others), so don't complain. And
yes, I love you.
Q. What's with that (place thing you don't like here)
on the site, huh?
A. You're silly. You love it. Get used to it.
Q. What made you decide to make this site?
A. The usual youthful insanity and boredom. One day I
decided I wanted to have the biggest Labyrinth site out there.
Because I loved it that much. Honestly, I love David Bowie
more now than the movie itself, but then, he already knows
it I'm sure, so I don't have to make a site about it. (Although
I have a tiny page, anyhow.)
Q. When did you start the site?
A. Sometime in 1997, I do believe. It was four little
lonely links on a page. Now it is this.
Q. How did you learn to do web design?
A. Lots of practice and patience. Books help a lot, and
school helps a lot too (especially art school). I don't really
think I got that good at it until I had done it for about
four years. So don't be faint of heart... Patience is the
ey to all mastery.
Q. What programs did you use on this site?
A. Macromedia Dreamweaver and Photoshop, primarily. They
are my cornerstones. If you are a student, you can buy them
both at discounted rates.
Q. Do you need help with the site?
A. There was a time when I did, but that time has passed.
If you are an insane, diligent, detailed, highly talented
web designer with both graphic design and programming skills,
and you want to pretty much take the site over, let's start
a conversation.
Q. What are your future plans for the site?
A. There was a time when I wanted a back-end database
for the site. Right now, though, I can't make time for any
future plans (i.e. learning enough PHP to make it work). Currently
my only future plans involve finishing my Labyrinth trilogy,
then moving on to other things. Hopefully Labyrinth IV will
be done by the time most people read this.
Q. So, what the heck are you working on anyway? I thought
you planned an overhaul.
A. I did. But now I am finally paying attention to my
calling as a filmmaker and storyteller. I can't spend my whole
life doting on the movies I love... It's time to take that
inspiration and apply it to my own work and ideas.
Q. Are you accepting anymore submissions of writing, citizen
focuses, etc?
A. Alas, no longer. Posting new stories on the site is
one of the most time consuming tasks overall, and I just don't
have it in me any longer. Consider going to fanfiction.net
to submit your stories there. Feel free to post announcements
for any new stories on the messageboard to let everyone know
about your new masterpieces.
Q. Will you be hosting anymore contests?
A. Not likely. Unless I find some Labyrinth memorabilia
lying around that was originally intended for a contest that
I am dying to part with... Which probably won't happen.
Q. Aww, now I'm sad.
A. So am I. But I am but one monkey.
The Labyrinth Sequels
Q. Are any of your novels official sequels to the movie?
A. All of my fan-fiction is strictly for my enjoyment
and that of my friends on the net, and none of them have been
published, nor are they in any way distributed as official
sequels.
Q. Where can I buy your books?
A. Due to legal reasons, I cannot publish my books, nor
have I ever done so in the past. You are, however, free to
download the files that contain the novels and print them
out for your own use.
Q. Have you ever tried to get your books published and
distributed?
A. As the movie "Labyrinth" is the property
of the Jim Henson Company, only JHC can give permission for
these novels to be published. My correspondence with the company
has revealed that the company is not interested in rehashing
any of Mr. Henson's old works, and, while they greatly appreciate
and respect their current Labyrinth fan base, wish to maintain
a company attitude that would respect Mr. Henson's desire
to tackle new projects in the spirit of invention.
Q. Do you think they should be made into movies?
A. If I could indeed sell my stories as movies, the only
reasons for wishing such a transaction would be purely selfish.
I believe that Labyrinth is a great film that is good the
way it is, and to add onto the movie in film format would
be a foolish decision, as no sequel would be able to capture
the same spirit as the original, especially without the original
cast and crew. However, I do find fan fiction to be a great
way to continue the world, allowing each individual to explore
the land of the Underground in their own ways, and make their
own discoveries. So, um, no.
Q. Are you aware that there are spelling and grammatical
errors in your stories?
A. Yes, very much so. I started the first one when I was
13, and the second when I was 17 (or something like that),
and despite many revisions, I've not caught all the errors.
Besides, my writing improves daily, and if I actually corrected
everything that bothered me in the novels, I'd drive myself
insane and never finish anything new. Besides, it's just fan-fiction,
and I think you guys will forgive me my errors, right?
Q. Your stories rock! I just wanted to tell you.
A. Why, thank you very much. That wasn't really a question,
though.
Q. Your stories suck monkey turds! And I think you smell!
A. To each his own. Just be sure you keep that to yourself.
I only like to get pleasant e-mail. However, sometimes I ask
people what they think, and if that is your honest opinion,
feel free to reveal it.
Q. When are you going to finish "Labyrinth IV: Raven's
Feather?"
A. When I'm good and ready, that's when! No, seriously
though, this one is slow going, so please just put on your
patient hat please. Thank you so much. I am trying to finish
it up during NaNoWriMo
of 2004 (in November). I may not start posting until December,
however. I know this is a major delay from my original plans,
but what else is new? Goals were made to be not met. Or something.
Q. Why did you end the last book on a cliffhanger?
A. The book was getting very long, and it needed a stopping
place, to start the next part of the story. I don't want to
see it end there anymore than anyone else, so I promise I
will finish it, even if it means moving deadlines... a lot.
Q. Are you going to post it chapter by chapter like last
time?
A. Not this time. I think I lost a lot of quality by doing
it that way... I need to be able to go back and make changes,
sometimes to the story itself, and that wouldn't be fair to
people reading along. However, I may decide to post it one
fourth at a time as I'm going, but I will need to be halfway
done before I can post the first fourth.
Q. Will this be your last Labyrinth novel?
A. I do think so. I really need to put these books aside
and move on to my own original projects.
Q. Can't you... I don't know, wave a magic wand and make
Jim Henson make your books into movies? I'll start a petition!
A. Neil Gaiman wanted to make a Labyrinth sequel, and
they told him "no." I wish it could happen sometimes,
but I am fairly sure it won't. However, I may one day transform
the novels enough so that they themselves are original works...
Granted, this will take a lot of effort, because I would have
no intention of leaving enough of a trail to indicate Labyrinth
had at any time been involved. And I would have to write my
own foundation story in place of Labyrinth. Maybe this will
happen, but only ten years down the road... And that's not
really the answer you wanted, was it? I know, deep down we
want to see David Bowie in tights again, but I don't think
it is gonna happen. Let's just love it for what it is, shall
we?
Q. Do you love us?
A. Yes I do. You don't know how much. Thank you all for
your letters, encouragement, support, readership, dreams,
and participation in the site. You mean a great deal to me,
and make every minute of non-published writing worth the effort.
Q. Can I write you if I have any questions not covered
in this F.A.Q.?
A. Of course you can! Feel free to just say hello. I always
try to respond.
